Who we are

The NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet Office for Women is a small, strategic unit which develops programs, policies and projects to the benefit of all women in NSW.

The Office for Women is the key advisor to the State Government on policies which impact directly on women. It also provides a valuable role in contributing to discussions on important social and economic issues relevant to women.

About the Office for Women

The Office reports directly to the Minister for Women. It also reports to the Director General of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. Our initiatives are guided by the NSW Government's policy commitments in this area. These policy commitments have a particular focus on gender equity and social justice in the planning, development and delivery of programs in NSW.

Our goal

Our goal is to facilitate the achievement of justice and equity for the women of NSW in all aspects of their lives - including equal access to economic and social opportunities - through policy, innovation and collaboration.

We work to achieve our goal by:

• Advising government on issues of importance to women
• Promoting gender awareness in public sector program and policy development and delivery
• Maintaining strong networks across government agencies and with key stakeholder groups on women's policy issues
• Collaborating with other government agencies, business and the community to achieve gender equity
• Coordinating Partnership Programs to contribute to the capacity building of women in the community, including involvement in decision making roles
• Delivering targeted programs for women and girls, including mentoring initiatives
• Participating in national forums on women's issues
• Providing information and resources via a website and regular newsletters.
