Working in an environment free from unlawful discrimination and harassment is something many of us take for granted. The reality for some, however, is that sex-based discrimination and harassment is still impacting on their ability to secure a job, to win promotions, to receive fair remuneration, and to work in a safe, non-hostile environment.

There are three bodies in NSW that investigate and resolve complaints relating to sex discrimination and sexual harassment in employment. They are the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board (ADB), and the Fair Work Ombudsman.

In this topic we examine, for the first time, data from complaints lodged with the ADB and the AHRC alleging sex discrimination and sexual harassment in employment. Data from the Fair Work Ombudsman was not available.
