Vote now for the most inspiring NSW Women

Artists, academics, entrepreneurs, entertainers, scientists and social advocates are amongst the finalists for the 2020 NSW Women of the Year Awards announced today.

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor congratulated the 26 finalists who have been nominated across seven diverse categories.

“These incredible women come from all walks of life but the one thing they have in common is that they are inspiring achievers for their communities,” Mrs Taylor said.

The Premier’s Award for NSW Woman of the Year finalists are: artist, lawyer and writer Amani Haydar; cardiologist Professor Clara Chow; and cancer researcher Professor Maria Kavallaris.

NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year finalists are: poet and children’s author Kirli Saunders; Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association chief executive Professor Ngiare Brown; and filmmaker and academic Associate Professor Pauline Clague.

Rex Airlines Regional Woman of the Year finalists are: business leader Dianna Somerville; Rural Fire Service Captain Krystaal Hinds; inclusion advocate Holly Conroy; and rural sobriety advocate Shanna Whan.

Members of the public are encouraged to help decide the winners of four award categories, which are now open for online voting: the NSW Community Hero Award, the Harvey Norman Young Woman of the Year Award, NSW Business Woman of the Year Award and the First State Super Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I urge everyone across NSW to show their support for the finalists’ achievements by submitting their vote,” Mrs Taylor said.

Winners will be announced at the 2020 NSW Women of the Year Awards at the International Convention Centre Sydney on 5 March.

The awards are part of NSW Women’s Week from 2-8 March.

Public voting award categories and finalists:

  • NSW Community Hero Award: Kay Schubach, Justine Lorenz, Glitta Supernova and Theresa Mitchell.
  • Harvey Norman Young Woman of the Year Award: Hannah Beder, Julia Weber and Mariam Mohammed.
  • NSW Business Woman of the Year Award: Alison Covington, Anneke van den Broek, Sue Ismiel, Stephanie Reuss and Victoria Stuart.
  • First State Super Lifetime Achievement Award: Christine Strachan, Lynette Bright, Violet Roumeliotis and Yvonne Brugmans.
